Eld – Electronic Logging device (ELD) is an Electronic device connected with the Commercial Vehicle’s (CMV) engine to record driving hours. It automatically captures important data from the CMV such as
 

• Engine Power Status
• Vehicle Motion Status
• Distance Driven
• Engine Hours
• Driver Identification
• Duty Status

Earlier the CMV drivers recorded their hours of service on paper. Starting December 2019, all the drivers operating in the USA are required to use ELDs to log in their Hours of Service. The same will be implemented for CMV drivers operating in Canada from June 2021.
